The town's real ice rink opened on Friday night in the picturesque Calverley Grounds.

The fantastic opening ceremony took place in the beautifully lit park with a skating performance by Ukrainian gymnast and professional skater Iryna Koretska and an energetic youth ice hockey display from the Invicta Junior Dynamos team.

Yardley Court Boys Prep School Choir and local band Virgin Soldiers provided the music.

ITV Meridian were on hand to video the event - and their footage can be seen here:

Father Christmas even arrived and he has now settled into his log cabin over looking the rink – his new home until Christmas Eve.

The ice rink will be open for public skating every day (excluding Christmas day) until Monday 7 January.

The cost for one hour's skating, including hire of skating boots, will be from £7.50 for children and £9.50 for adults.

It's never too early to book especially as last year the sessions around Christmas, New Year and weekends sold out fast.

Tickets for the ice rink can be booked at the on site Box Office off at the rink, online, or from the Assembly Hall Theatre Box Office in person or by calling 01892 554645.

Family tickets, school and groups rates (15+) are available; Go! Card holders will enjoy concessionary rates.

For those smitten with the skating bug there will even be a loyalty card.  Half hour parent and toddler sessions take place every day at 10am for thirty minutes.

For full details on ticket prices, session times, themed & acoustic nights and the dedicated parent and toddler sessions visit

New for 2012 a number of authentic Christmas chalets will surround the ice rink.

From candles to scarves, confectionery to hampers and face painters to artists, all our exhibitors are local independent businesses whose products are unique and of a very high quality.

Open everyday at the rink Spade and Spoon's Yuletide Taste Trailer will be serving  local seasonal produce inspired by traditional Alpine markets;  Johnny's Little Sisters Emporium will be showcasing stunning Christmas wreaths and garlands and Basil will be selling delicious wholesome home-cooked food.

Even if you don't want to skate, Calverley Grounds will be well worth a visit to soak up the festive atmosphere, warm up with a glass of mulled wine and sumptuous food and buy some great gifts for loved ones  (and yourself).

The Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Ice Rink project is supported by AXA PPP healthcare, the Kent & Sussex Courier and Heart.
