The Barn is privately owned and the same management team have successfully operated this business for the owners, since they purchased this business in 1992, ensuring consistent standards through their commitment and genuine pleasure in working in such an attractive pub-restaurant, which has recently undergone a refurbishment of the restaurant to create a more attractive and comfortable environment , but at the same time retaining its special character The barn pub & grill is located in a private road, just off Mount Pleasant Road, and only a short walk from the station, Assemby Hall Theatre and Hoopers Department store
Our philosophy is "to serve freshly prepared food, using high quality raw materials at unbeatable prices"
The menu has evolved over recent years, taking account of fashion changes and is currently based on grills & mediterranean specialities (inc fresh pasta). We have a great reputation for steaks, using prime mature British beef
In addition to the attractively priced al a carte dishes, we have a selection of fixed priced menus, with lots of choice, 3 courses for £16.95 and a special menu, which is particularly popular for small parties - 3 courses plus coffee and a bottle of excellent French wine per person for only £26
Our restaurant is particularly attractive & popular for small parties - birthdays, engagement, "night outs", or any other excuse for a party. Great quality, large portions and exceptional value are our raison d'etre.
FREE Wi-Fi is available in all areas
On evening and weekends there is lots of free parking available adjacent to the premises
Following many requests The Barn is now available for weddings on Sundays. Please view our website for full details, including menus and prices.

    The Barn

For years I've been solely going to The Barn on Friday or Saturday nights, when it's generally pretty heaving and you'd be very lucky to get a seat. The plus' being for me that it's over 21's on weekend nights and a perfect half way stop when travelling up or down the hill that is Mt Pleasant.

I have, however, recently tried The Barn during a sunny weekend afternoon and for the first time sampled the delights of it's lunchtime food menu. I am, to say the least, impressed; the garden is a sun trap, and a definite addition to my Pub Garden Summer Faves. The food was also perfect for a lunchtime bite. I had a couple of items from their Tapas menu, but they also have a range of sandwiches and burgers, and the neighbouring table were digging into a large bowl of mussels, which looked delicious.

The drinks aren't the cheapest you'll find in the area, so I was also pleasantly surprised by how cheap the food menu was. Most main lunch courses were around the £4-6 mark, which for the look of the size of those mussels seemed pretty damn reasonable.

I was also served a Pimms with more than just a single strawberry in the way of fresh fruit, which is always worth an extra star in my books.
