TWBC are currently reviewing and evaluating Tunbridge Wells' first ever ice rink, which closed last weekend.

Thousands of people took to the ice during the time the rink was open, and a project is now underway to analyse the customer feedback gathered during the 6 weeks it was open.

Cllr Catherine Mayhew, Leisure and Economic Development Portfolio Holder said: "With 26,600 people taking to the ice this year, it is clear that the ice rink was a great success - and many more non-skaters came to watch the fun in the park and enjoy the illuminations.

"I think this new initiative by the Council really added to the festive season for many of our residents and visitors this year. We wanted to put some extra fun in to Christmas and we did. Judging by the feedback I have received, people are already talking about this being a must-do event next Christmas."

The rink has been well received locally with skaters saying how much they enjoyed it and Council Leader, Cllr Bob Atwood has already said: 'the intention is that the rink will return next year subject to funds being available.'

Cllr Atwood added: 'Subject to a sound business case, Cabinet will be asked to consider extending the project beyond this pilot for a five year period which would give a more realistic picture of whether a Christmas rink could be successful in the long term."

It is anticipated that the evaluation report about the ice rink will be discussed by the council's cabinet at a meeting in March.

What do you think? Did you skate at Calverley Grounds this year? Would you like to see the rink back next Christmas?
