Response to petition on the Civic Complex

Statement by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council

The Council will be discussing a petition calling on the Council to debate the future of the Civic Complex on 30 November.

A number of members of the public have requested that they should be able to speak at the meeting which is not catered for under the Council’s Petition Scheme. The Council is therefore proposing that people can get involved in three ways:

.       First, the Council will hold an additional meeting immediately prior to the Council Meeting dealing with the petition purely and simply to enable members of the public to put their questions and receive answers (see notes below). This meeting will take place at 6pm on Tuesday 30 November.

.       Second, the Council will be webcasting the meeting which enables anyone with access to the internet to view it and to find out more about how to get involved in the consultation on the Civic Complex. The broadcast will be archived meaning that those without access to the internet can view it from public computers in libraries or the Gateway.

.       Finally, the Regeneration Company will shortly be launching a large, inclusive process of consultation on the future of the Civic Complex which will run into the New Year.  This consultation will enable everyone to have their say and express their views. It will also make clear that plans are not nearly as advanced as many people have been led to believe.
