Just before you all dive under you duvets in preparation for
-
Bluebells adorning our woods in Spring
the long winter hibernation, and let’s not forget the horrors of last winter
with its tons of snow and the ensuing chaos, spare a few moments to contemplate
the light at the end of the tunnel which as it flickers draws us towards
Spring. And the most beautiful sight in
spring is the first sign of blossoming
bulbs; first come the snowdrops, followed by the bluebells, daffodils,
tulips, narcissi, and hyacinths. How we all drew a sigh of relief last year as
the blue blanket of delicate
flowers adorned our woods, the bluebells really are one of nature’s finest
treats.
So, with the last breath of summer still in the air this
weekend, roll up your sleeves, dig out your wellies
and start planning your spring collection. With a selection of garden centres and big name
nurseries on offer in Tunbridge Wells you couldn’t wish for more than Flower
Power on Frant Road. With
competitive prices and delightful staff it is a pleasure to keep our bulb
search local and independent!
Keeping it in the family our next stop for the best in show
is Speldhurst
Nurseries. A family run business, their philosophy is to ‘only offer plants
they would be happy to use in their own garden.’ Take a wander around their
beautifully presented gardens and take advice from the passionate owners who
will be pleased to offer guidance on any of your gardening needs. Experienced
gardeners amongst you will know that autumn is the best time to plant trees,
hedges and most shrubs as well as bulbs and Speldhurst Nurseries have a superb range of top quality plants to
choose from and are more than happy to assist you in your selection.
If it is a big name you after then Wyevale
Garden Centre is the UK’s largest garden centre group and sells more
varieties of shrubs, plants and trees than you could shake a stick at. With one situated on Eridge Road you would do
well to go down and test their catalogue, I’m sure you’ll be spoilt for choice.
You can also have your car washed in the
forecourt whilst you idly wander around!
On the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells you will find the
traditional garden centre Notcutts
which offers the gardener a massive variety of plants. With over 200 different bulbs available they
pride themselves on ‘only offering top quality cultivated bulbs that are as
fresh as possible.’ You will also find free and accessible parking and an award
winning restaurant serving home baked food.
With so much on offer the only problem us gardeners will
encounter this autumn is which bulbs to plant where. But with their flexibility
and array of colour you can pretty much plant bulbs anywhere from containers to
nestled in between shrubs to creating great swathes of colour along your fences
and drives. So get planting Tunbridge
Wells and relax in the knowledge that come April our winter blues will be blown
away with a fabulous display of colour.
