Over sixty pupils from schools in Tunbridge Wells will be giving up some of their precious half term holiday this week to help support the Lifestyle Renault Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon.

Pupils from Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for girls and Bennett Memorial School will be spending their time putting together over two thousand goody bags for the race which takes place on Sunday 27th February.

'We need to put together 2200 bags containing drinks, food, magazines, products and flyers for the runners after the race' explained organisers Jo and Paul Clift 'and it's a complicated job requiring a lot of manpower. We are really grateful to the pupils for giving up some their holiday to support the event and we couldn't do it without them'.

The bags will be put together at Lifestyle Renault (the race headline sponsor) on Tuesday and Wednesday of half term and the pupils will be involved in an 'inter school' competition to see who can stuff the most bags in the shortest time.

On race day itself, they will then join forces with 100 other pupils from Skinners' School and St Gregory's School to man car parking, water stations, race baggage, and handing out medals, goody bags and race T shirts on the finish line, alongside race ambassador Dame Kelly Holmes, who will be starting the race at 10am.

'Over the last few years, the race has become a big community event and is now one of the most important events in the Town' commented Race Director Sarah Russell. 'It's fantastic to see so many community and voluntary groups involved and we're extremely grateful for the support. The youngsters get to learn some new skills and to see the wheels behind the organisation and we get the support and manpower to make the race possible. Everyone benefits!'.

The Lifestyle Renault Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 27th February at 10am. For more information see www.twharriers.org.uk
