World's Biggest Coffee Morning Friday 24th September

On Friday 24th September 2010 the world’s biggest

coffee morning will take place. 

Macmillan hopes a record number of people will take part in this year’s

biggest coffee morning to celebrate its 20th birthday.

Launched in 1990, this major fundraising event organised by

Macmillan Cancer support has steadily grown over the years and now rivals Comic

Relief and the Race for Life in capturing the nation’s imagination. It was

initiated here in Kent when a fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee

morning for people to socialise and give a donation to Macmillan. A year later the first national World’s

Biggest Coffee Morning was held with 2,600 registering to host events.  Last year 43,000 people held coffee mornings

across the UK, raising £7.9 million to pay for the charity to support cancer

sufferers and their families.

Last year Tunbridge Wells held 81 coffee morning events and

raised £10,348.  This year the charity is

looking for more volunteers for its Tunbridge Wells fundraising groups. All you

have to do is pick a date, the official date is 24th September but

you can choose any date. Choose your event; you can hold a coffee morning at

work, school, or in your local community. 

Send out invitations to friends or colleagues and then on the day enjoy a

cake, a cuppa and a bit of idle chat whilst raising money for the vital work

Macmillan Cancer support do.
