Are you a reasonable swimmer and fancy a challenge to help raise millions for charity? If so, register to the Swimathon 2011 challenge taking place up and down the country, and specifically in Tunbridge Wells on 9 April, 6pm at the Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre.

Choose your challenge and get training! You can invite your friends and family to either join you in the water or sponsor you.

"Swimathon provides motivation and a personal challenge to swimmers nationwide. It also offers a goal to train for, a target to achieve and a great cause to support." says Duncan Goodhew, Olympic gold medallist and Swimathon President.

Whatever your ability, Swimathon has a challenge for everyone. You can try the individual challenges of 1.5k, 2.5k or the ultimate 5k. Alternatively, you can join up with friends and family and take on the Team 5k challenge.

This year Swimathon aims to raise over £2 million for Marie Curie and the Swimathon Foundation. Reserve your space here.

Good to hear today that Tunbridge Wells Sports and Leisure Centre’s 2011 Swimathon saw an impressive turnout over the weekend with many people taking the plunge in support of the Marie Curie Cancer Care Trust and The Swimathon Foundation.

Stewart Wild, Sports Development Officer at Tunbridge Wells Sports and Leisure Centre commented: “Our youngest swimmer was just eight and we had several swimmers who are in their 60’s! Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Thomas kindly launched the Swimathon and well-known DJ Dave Cash made a surprise appearance in support of his partner.

“We don’t yet know the official amount raised but we hope to be able to match last year’s record of £8564. It was a great event and the atmosphere was brilliant, everyone had a good time and the amount of effort made by all the teams was heartwarming.”
