What do you think should happen to Grosvenor and Hilbert Park in Tunbridge Wells? Here's how to have your say!

The Council has sent a questionnaire to residents living in the vicinity of the park asking them for their views and is now asking for anyone else who wishes to complete the survey to go on-line and do so.

The council has raised around £300,000 which is to be used to improve the park and hopes that by making a Lottery Fund bid it can gain additional funding for the project. A successful lottery bid will enable restoration and improvements to take place across the park and develop community and volunteer events and activities.

Anyone completing the survey has an opportunity to receive a free family swim pass and be entered into a prize draw to win six month’s membership at Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre.

The survey is on-line on the Parks and Open Spaces pages of the council’s website at http://tinyurl.com/3sjrl35 Access to the internet is available at the Gateway in Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre or if preferred paper copies can also be completed and returned via Panini on the Park at the bowls pavilion by 20 May.

Alongside the survey, as part of the improvement project, parks staff are very keen to hear from people who would be willing to share their memories of the park. Those who would like to contribute to this can contact Peter Every, Parks and Sports Team Leader, on 01892 526121 or by email to peter.every@tunbridgewells.gov.uk The results of the survey will be available for all to see at two drop-in sessions being held in the bowls pavilion in the park on Thursday 16 June, 3.30–8pm and Saturday 18 June, 10.30am–1.30pm.

One of the best parks in TW when you are a mum with children, I spent many hours there with my NCT group and my 2 boys when they were both babies - and still go regularly now with them. It's safe, fun and the cafe is great. Be interesting to see how £300k + can improve on what I actually think is already a pretty good space.

Isn't there a largish pond there? Years of neglect and debris from the recent new builds means it would benefit from a clean up and some new plants maybe. I'd enjoy seeing the pond back to its former glory.

Yes think you are right - must admit that it's the play area bit I go but if there's a neglected pond too within the park boundary then it sounds great that it'll be cleaned up.

Thanks, Rebecca. I think the Camden Road Education, Arts, Theatre and Enterprise group (aka CREATE!) may be contributing to discussions about the future of the rec. I'll find out if more news will be posted in due course on http://tinyurl.com/6fvc4x8

More than £2 million is being planned to be spent to revamp the park on top of the £340,000 already raised by TWBC to improve it. The £2m will come via the Heritage Lottery Fund. The lottery funding application will be completed following 2 recent drop-in sessions to gather thoughts from the public about the improvement plans.
