Hi Mazza
I am a member paying £97/mth - a couple of weeks ago there was a notice pinned outside saying that there had been a flood and the spa was closed til 20th July [today].. sorry for the inconvenience.. Sounded a bit bizarre and was very angry that they had not bothered to contact members via email as one might expect when paying so much money. Then on Monday I saw someone had written on their note "this is a load of b*ll*cks.. they've gone bust without paying their staff or members - thanks for that Murphy Family" ... When I walked back about an hour later the note had been removed. Over the previous weekend I had seen a couple of blokes carting off one of the big gilt mirrors but thought it was part of the redecoration post the flood. Now I think they were probably repossessing... Needless to say this morning - the day it was supposed to re-open the doors were still locked.. Someone on Twitter told me her sister works there and is owed a load of money and no likelihood of getting paid. It's a disgrace but I don't know what to do about it. @MediaPoppet said she was talking to a reporter about it so we'll see if anything appears in The Courier.
There was a note on the door the day before yesterday saying that the Royal Day Spa is now in liquidation.
All enquiries to be directed to Cooper Matthews, 1a Ash Lane Business Park, Gosforth, Leeds LS25 2HG.
I understand that someone else bought a voucher from Last Minute but obtained a refund from them.
Rumour has it that The Brewery might be in negotiations to purchase the spa.
Watch this space!
Forty staff have lost their jobs after a spa and health club in Tunbridge Wells went bankrupt.
Business debt specialists Cooper Matthews Limited were appointed on Tuesday to take control of the finances of the Royal Day Spa and Members Health Club.
Founding director Derek Cooper told the Courier that the Vale Road club stopped trading on Friday.
But Mr Cooper remained confident a buyer would come forward for the premises before it went into formal liquidation.
He said: "We have had a lot interest in this business. We can look at offers that come in and I think in this case we will get a buyer."
It is not the first time the club has got itself into trouble.
In February last year, it went into administration until it was bought out five months later.
The club's current director Shelley Murphy was said to be "stressed out with it all".
Mr Cooper added: "The owner of the spa has recently had twins and had taken on too much work."
I was an employee at RDS.
The owners of the company shouldn't be allowed to trade again. It is a truly terrible thing they have done to their members and staff. Most of us hadn't been payed for a month before it closed, and when they said it was closed due to flooding, it was actually because the staff had no money to get to work!
I actually saw some confused day guests outside the spa today trying to get in, so it's hard to tell if people who bought vouchers are being contacted to let them know the spa is no longer trading.
We were led to believe right up to the 15th of June that the staff would be payed and the spa would be re-opening.
The staff were put under a lot of stress and our bookings team were instructed to book in a ridiculous amount of people each day, meaning we often didn't have space to fit in people's treatments, leading to disappointments and very angry customers. Our therapists were expected to perform back to back treatments which often led to injury.
The fact that they kept the company going by putting it in Shelley's mother's name after they went into administration shows just how irresponsible they are.
They really were a bunch of crooks and I am so glad i have nothing to do with them any more.

you can claim a refund for your day at the royal day spa tonbridge wells from your bank if you paid by visa debit or credit card by applying for a chargeback. they will want confirmation of the company's liquidation from the people who are handling it which is Debt focus 01257 251319. if you paid through lastminute.com they will also probably offer you complimentary vouchers.
hope this helps

After being told by Travelzoo that a company called Cooper Matthews were dealing with the liquidation, this is not the case. I have also just rang Debt Focus and they are not dealing with the liquidation either! However they did tell me that the 'Director' is picking up mail from the Spa addess 12 Vale Road, Post Office Square, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN1 1BP. Its highly unlikely this will do any of us any good but you can live in hope! GOOD LUCK!
We are alerting you to potentially fraudulent merchant
activity by Royal Day Spa. You may be subject to this fraud.
On 21 December, 2010 and 15 March, 2011, Travelzoo published
an offer for Royal Day Spa. The offer was available for
redemption until 01 July, 2011. Although the voucher period
expired on 1 July, 2011, it has now come to our attention
that the spa authorized and booked appointments after the
expiry period.
When the spa booked these appointments, they also took the
PINs from voucher holders. Upon receipt of these PINs, the
spa fraudulently marked appointments as complete and
invoiced Travelzoo for the appointments, which we
subsequently paid.
On 25 July, 25 days after voucher expiry, we have been
informed that Royal Day Spa ceased trading. As such, those
customers who booked appointments outside of the valid
period are not able to consume their appointment and have
been defrauded by the spa.
We have instructed our lawyer firm, Fried Frank, to take all
legal measures possible, including pursuit of the Directors
of Royal Day Spa, to recover the funds paid to Royal Day
Spa. Should we recover these funds, we will return them to
our subscribers.
We ask that you complete the attached form that provides
evidence in this fraudulent case, so that we may pursue this
matter more efficiently. Please return the form to
