Many shops have closed in the Pantiles, quite a shock to see so many this morning. I hardly saw any tourists up there too. Are the rents astronomical here?

The rents are actually quiet reasonable compared to other parts of the town.
What is bad about the Pantiles from a retailer's point of view is that there is very low footfall.
It might appear busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon in summer but for most of the year it is deserted.

I have never seen it so deserted. Maybe I am just used to going there on a Sunday. I went there in a weekday and I think I just saw abou 20 people at that time, and only one customer was in the Tourist Office. I wonder what will happen if other shops go, what will happen to the Pantiles, will it be another 'lost bandstand' and will have to be demolished.
I was shocked to the Games shop go as well, I used to enjoy getting specialist games. And the book shop is great, luckily it is still there.
I can't remember seeing the teddy bear shop, don't tell me that has gone too.

I thought quite a few new clothes shops have opened up recently, including Jack Wills which will be good at pulling in people from the upper part of town. Also i think there are only 2 empty shops in the Pantiles and both have under offer boards up. Maybe i'm missing something.
