Best restaurant (or pub) in Tunbridge Wells for a birthday dinner for 2? It's my husband's birthday this week, and I'd really like to take him out somewhere a bit different that we have never been to before. Not top end pricey, but still with great food and good service. We like Thai/Indian food, gastro-pub type food and seafood in particular. Any recommendations please?

    How about the Black Pig for pub grub, Sankeys for seafood and Junakhi for Indian?

    If these are too obvious as choices, then you could try the Cochin Marine which would combine your love of curry and fish. I personally haven't tried it but it's on my wish-list and gets gets great reviews - see TW blogger Anke's write up here: http://tinyurl.com/dg6xm2

    Seafood = Sankeys, Mount Pleasant
    Thai = Preedee, Camden Road.
    Gastro = Black Pig
    Indian = Cochin Marine, very different Indian as it's all seafood based. Very nice and the staff are lovely..

    Everytime I've been to Hotel du Vin I've had a great time, food & service has been great and you can download a voucher on their website - 2 courses & bottle of wine for £35 for 2! or for something completely different...Himalayan Gurkha on Church Road, had a good time there a few yrs ago and always has good reviews

    Casa Vecchia is good for seafood Med-style - big piled up plates of really fresh fish and shellfish, good wine list and friendly staff. Don't read any older reviews of this place on the Pantiles, as by all accounts it's miles better now than it was a year ago - according to popular opinion - and I agree!

    Must try Cochin Marine too, sounds fab, and yes agree, Sankeys is always reliably brilliant.

    Wow thanks so much for all your replies! I have opted for the Cochin Marine, just because it sounds so perfect for my husband who loves something a bit unknown and quirky. We're going tomorrow night, and I can't wait! Will let you know what we think. Thanks again.
