TWBC considering overnight car parking charges in Tunbridge Wells
A range of ideas to raise extra cash from parking were discussed at a meeting of the council's economy and governance select committee on Tuesday evening.
The introduction of overnight parking charges was seen by councillors as one of the most viable options. The fees, if adopted, would apply to all town centre car parks that stay open 24 hours a day.
The council's cabinet member for planning and transportation Brian Ransley said the authority was left with little choice but to charge or risk cutting services.
The sites affected would include Crescent Road and Torrington. It is estimated that between 50 and 300 cars park in the Crescent Road facility overnight, depending on which events are on at the nearby Assembly Hall.
Mr Ransley was, however, quick to say that the plans for car parking charges had not yet been discussed by the council's cabinet.
"The points made were only suggestions from our officers and we will be looking to discuss them further in the next few weeks," he told the meeting.
What do you think of these plans? Would they affect you?

Great idea. Drive even more people away from Tunbridge Wells, this time in the evening as well as during the day. While we're at it, why don't we have a congestion charge zone around the town = say within a radius of 3 miles from the Town Hall. As Tunbridge Wells is so desirable a destination we could get away with a £20 congestion charge, couldn't we, dear council? Then we'd make so much money you'll all be able to keep your jobs.
You shortsighted, unrrealistic, clueless jobsworths.
