More bad news for every cash-and-time strapped parent in Tunbridge Wells this week, with the news that Westfield are to start charging for the popular Kiddy Cars to hire in the Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre.

Previously this service has been free for parents, who have benefited hugely from the red single or double cars, keeping children amused (and strapped in) as you tackle the 90+ busy shops and which come with a massive shopping net under the handle bars in which to stash all your purchases.

But now it's been decided to charge for the hire of the cars, and, while £2 isn't a great deal of money, combine it with the ever-increasing costs to actually park in the Royal Victoria Place, and a shopping trip can cost several extra pounds before you've even bought anything.

Kiddy Cars are available to hire opposite BHS on level 2 of the shopping mall.

What do you think of this move? Will you continue to use the service now you'll need to pay for it?

Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells! What a shame - these cars were fun, free and most importantly for retailers, gave shoppers with young children the chance to shop MORE. I think Westfield have truly bitten the hand that feeds them with this move. Yes £2 isn't a lot as you say, but it's the principle here. Smacks of opportunistic cash generation in the lucative run-up to Christmas.
