Jobs threat for Tunbridge Wells as HMV appoints administrators
The shop has eight stores in Kent - including the one in the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre.
Deloitte is being appointed as administrators and it is believed it will try to sell the chain, which employs more than 4,000 people across the country, as a going concern.
But experts think online competition, supermarkets and digital downloads have signalled the end of the firm and say there may not be many buyers for the 90-year-old chain.
It also has shops in Bluewater, Maidstone, Chatham, Ashford, Folkestone, Canterbury and Thanet.
It is the second blow to hit Tunbridge Wells shopping scene, after Jessops camera chain went into administration and shut down last week.
Comet also closed down at the end of 2012.
