Buying Christmas presents for food lovers should be relatively simple: you have an endless variety of food and drink options to give as gifts and new products are always available each year.

Hampers make great gifts as they give you the option to combine different items together; these are our top hamper ideas for Christmas 2012:

Traditional treats: combine a box of gingerbread, a bottle of red wine, mulled wine sachets, a traditional Christmas pudding, mixed nuts and a set of nutcrackers for an old-fashioned festive hamper.

All-American: hunt down some Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, popcorn, Oreos and Poptarts. Perhaps not the most nutritious hamper in the world, but absolutely delicious! Pop in a classic American movie like Home Alone for them to watch whilst they enjoy their treats!

Wine time: wine gifts are always a winner, and you could include a good bottle of red, one of white, a couple of nice cheeses, onion chutney, crackers and grapes. If you’re not sure which wine to buy, consider giving vouchers so that your foodie friend can choose their own wine online. You can also find monthly wine deliveries, so that your lucky recipient gets a fresh bottle every four weeks for the next year!

Chocolate lover: look for a good variety of chocolates to include, such as those with higher cocoa counts for a more intense flavour. Green and Black’s do some great varieties in full sized bars, and you can also find chocolate slabs studded with nuts and fruit to add a little variety.

Tea time: for tea lovers, choose a range of bags and blends for them to try, including a few herbal varieties. Most supermarkets have variety boxes available with several flavours included inside. A big box of biscuits, scone mix and fine jam will complete the perfect tea time.

Italian treats: there are some amazing pasta varieties available, including a kind of spaghetti that is coloured black with squid ink! Pick up some gourmet jars of pasta sauce, mixed herbs, olives, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. If you are giving your hamper close to Christmas, you could buy some fresh crusty bread that can be dipped into the oil and vinegar. Bellissimo!

Cake baking: create a basket for a domestic goddess which includes fine flour, muscovado sugar, a variety of decorations, cake cases, a muffin tin and chocolate chunks. Just make sure you stick around to sample the results!
