Anger grows at Tunbridge Wells councillors pay rise plans as hundreds sign petition

Almost 200 people have signed a petition calling for Tunbridge Wells Borough councillors to scrap plans for a "totally out of order" pay rise.

The petition, posted on the council's website, calls for the council to freeze the suggested 15-20% rise which has been put forward by the Cabinet.
It says: "[It] is totally out of order in these times of recession.
"We also believe the remuneration package for elected representatives should be frozen until a) the country comes out of recession and b) the existing cinema site has been demolished.
"It is time to tell our Councillors that they should wake up and see that it is unacceptable to treat the public purse as a trough."
The petition closes on March 23,
